Skoda owners can now make fuel payments via the car's infotainment system

Skoda has introduced a new feature that allows owners to pay for fuel via their car's infotainment system.

As per reports, the new feature called 'Pay to Fuel', will be installed in the vehicle's infotainment system. The feature will list all the stations that support the service via in-car navigation. Owners can choose the petrol station and the vehicle will automatically recognise it at the time of arrival.

Via the app, the driver can then confirm the station and enter the pump number and the amount of fuel after refuelling. The payment can be made via the same screen, with the app accepting all common credit and debit cards. Once the payment is done, the driver receives a notification on the MySkoda App and can then drive away.

The information of the card being used for payment can be entered via the MySkoda App. The 'Pay to Fuel' service is said to be provided by Skoda in partnership with Mastercard, Parkopedia and ryd - a German FinTech company.

The new feature is currently said to be offered in a few European countries like Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria Denmark and Switzerland, with Portugal and Spain expected to get it soon. Other countries will also receive this service at a slightly later stage.

Someone please introduce these countries to UPI.

If I have to enter so many details, I would rather enter my 4 digit UPI PIN.

Even if one is filling fuel themselves, a UPI bar code can appear on the dispenser's display, which can be scanned for instant payment.

UPI is not an ifixit to be applied everywhere. I’m sorry if this sounds rude but 1. There are better solutions than just applying UPI everywhere; here it could be RFIDs perhaps. 2. Just because we don’t have to pay doesn’t mean there isn’t any infrastructural or associated cost to UPI. 3. We in India are used to UPI, Americans and Europeans are not- they have far more seamless technologies like Apple Pay (or other such NFC based methods) in place already. Don’t really understand the idea behind this move by Škoda

Each one to their own. I can see a use case, where the kids are on a call using the parents phone (Grandparents on the line), you would not want to interrupt.
Having multiple choices always helps, and each solution has its own use-case.

P.S: I dont own a Skoda or VW

Who is saying that UPI is the solution for everything?
In an open market there are multiple options, UPI is also one of the options.
I can pay through Credit Card, Debit Card, Cash or UPI. Nowadays, I am only using UPI. Tomorrow, if fastag based payment becomes possible, I may use it or at least try it.

It all boils down to convinience and security. Who in the world would have thought that UPI would be successful in a country like ours, where rural internet connectivity and tech saviness is doubtful. Now, UPI has become the most successful payment option with the volume of transactions everyday.
