BMW X1 Review

Excellent review. Very precise & crisp to the point.

But sadly that is all there is to write about the New X1. I can't really understand how cars of lower categories offer so much features in their cars but the luxury ones don't.
For example, the Harrier Top end costs around 30 odd lakhs on road but it has got everything. Comparingly the new X1 has not even half the features. I do understand the fit & finish, material quality, QC everything plays a vital role in the price. But if the X1 had all the same features of the Harrier and if it costs around 63L (double of the Harrier), I think the price excess of 33L could easily justify the build quality, QC, brand value, etc.

Hoping for FTA between India and Europe for the European car prices to come down at affordable levels.

I drive a Jeep Compass AT 4X4 and my brother has an X1 Previous generation. I have driven his car. The biggest difference is how effortless X1 feels on open roads when driving at 3 digit speeds and overtaking situations. JC is just not tuned like that. BMW is made to put a smile on your face with every tap on the accelerator. Tucson is a value based car for sure and the way its engine and gear box are tuned is fabulous, including the engine refinement and NVH levels. I feel X1 is still an upgrade from Jeep Compass for that refinement and engine - gearbox alignment.

Thanks for sharing but I guess the key here is that you have driven the previous gen X1.

If I am not wrong, while the previous X1 diesel got 190hp, this one gets just 150hp.

I still believe BMW's effortless driving characteristics to be far superior. I am test driving the new X1 next will so I can say it with bit more confidence. Hardcore Jeep fans say that the lethargic tuning of gear box and the engine is because Jeep is an offroad vehicle. However, I have not heard anything spectacular either from the new 4x2 AT that was launched. I find BMWs to be very agile and quick on their feet.

I was planning to buy a 2023 BMW X1, and I am glad that I found a review for it on Team-Bhp to help me decide.

The UK car market is different to that of India. The cheapest, decent car you can buy here is the Dacia Duster which starts at 15L but has a 3-star safety rating.
If you want to buy a decent-sized family car (say above 4200mm length and 1800mm width), you have to shelve out upwards of 30L.
Once you enter the 30L+ territory, it is filled with options like MG HS, Skoda Karoq, Hyundai Tuscon, Kia Sportage and then the luxury brands like BMW X1, and Audi Q3 also fall in the same range.

Unless you need a 7-seater, why would anyone buy a Skoda Kodiaq for 37L, when you can get a BMW X1 or a Q3 for the same price?

The reason I am ranting about the UK car market and the price factor is, how the price tag of 60L onroad in Bangalore is just not justified for a mid-sized SUV like the X1.

If these German luxury car manufacturers want to make an impact with big numbers in the 4th largest car market in the world, they should bring down the costs of their cars to match the ever-growing competition which provides more for less. "Make in India" is probably one solution and I am sure they will benefit from the investments they will have to make for it.
