Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Five star review as always!
Does anyone have a video or GIF of the animated welcome lights?

The itself looks great, feature rich and modern, hope Tata has sorted the QC issues and niggles in the final production.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

I'd happily pay for the Nexon, manufactured at a German brand's plant. Or one made in Germany itself! There are so many quality control issues + niggles, and they have left a sour taste from the start.
And, at least where I live, the service centre personnel DO NOT get more smart, clever or competent with each nice launch from the Tata marquee.
I have a bit of piano plastic on my Tiago's HVAC panel. Without doing anything deliberately, it went to an ugly matte finish in 6 months. It's totally wrong to have this material on high touch points on cars.

Germans and quality? In which era are we in sir? skoda and VW are very well known for their quality issues especially for DSG GBs

But as I see it, no point coming out with a car that has futuristic design elements when in reality, cars given to customers undergo poor QC, have uneven panel gaps, poor fitment and reliability issues. Moreover, that petrol engine isn't fun to drive around with. No point having a DCA with it. TATA should work on getting the fundamentals right.
Turbo petrol was never fun in earlier nexons and so does this. But as per TML more than 60% of Nexons are petrol.
Refinement and AMT were concern and DCA solved 1 big problem.

.
People wait to nitpick and ignore all the positive. Everyone had issues with jerky AMTs and with DCA, now they are asking for 0-100 dash. God save us.
My last full fuel tank had avg speed around 15kmph and mileage around 11kmpl, thanks for few kms drive on ORR.

But, TATA screwed up big time by not launching the diesel in the Smart trim. To add salt to the injury, the already average 1.2l petrol gets a 5 speed transmission, which one can assume will be the decades old TA65 gearbox from the indica days. Add to that the horrible digital instrument cluster, which is a real bother to use.

Another pet peeve is that the pre facelift Nexon had a basic non touchscreen music system in the lower variant. A dot display inside the slot (no protruding tablet) and the buttons and knobs retained below. But the new one seems to have done away with all.
Nexon petrol is around 170Nm torque. Would TA65 GB handle that ? If that GB is ancient, people here asking for torque converters in Nexon.
Horrible instrument cluster? That is same as the out going model if I read the pic correctly here. 12K copies minimum from 2020 year and is the cluster so bad ?
After the ugly rear, did we now move inside for horrible stuff ?

Oh Tata!

You had all the time in the world, and all you could come up with a facelift with so my QA misses?? It’s just hilariously lame to have parts coming off during media review!

Making 5 star cars is one thing (which we all appreciate), but you really-really need to start offering well put together quality products which goes a long way in enhancing consumer experience. I would NEVER buy a car or any product for that matter plagued by such glaring quality issues.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

There was one review by one youtuber Mr. Chaudhary (don't remember his first name).

He mentioned something very strange at the end of the review:

Its better to buy the AMT if you are planning for the Nexon Automatic. The DCA is jerky and isn't upto mark, and better to skip the Nexon Petrol DCT altogether.

Now my point is, is it as bad as these Youtubers are making it out to be ? I mean, comparing DCA with AMT, seriously ?

I also notice in T-BHP review it is indeed mention that there are some jerks, specially on aggressive downshifting.

I hope the gearbox is not a badly tuned one.

A lot of buyers who would be upgrading from their AMT hatchbacks/CSedans to Nexon DCA would be a disappointed lot if indeed DCA is only a very minor improvement over the AMT !

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Thanks for the detailed review. Nexon is an allrounder with synergy. If Nexon, then diesel manual it is. Creative/Creative+ is fully loaded. TATA should be complemented for not pushing the sunroof for their margins.

Hi,
Nicely written with detailed images. But really not sure why the new car already have issues like broken interior parts, mal functioning Gear selector etc.,

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

I am gonna catch a lot of flak from Tata fans for this comment.
I think exterior is very similar to other cars currently on sale like Tucson, Venue, Chevy Trax, Outlander. But it looks good in purple and ocean mist colors.
I really like the interior especially that digital instrument cluster.
Not a huge fan of floating tablet like infotainment. Should have been a joint screen along with instrument cluster.

Now the thing which I'm absolutely shocked by is those little fit and finish issues. The uneven button finishing on steering wheel, panel gap around glove box, finish around handbrake lever, etc.
Also what's up with so much piano black. I was watching reviews on YouTube and these new cars are already facing fingerprint issues on piano black panels like steering wheel screen and AC panel.
And who decided to put hazard lights button so much below than it's actual position?

And now for my most unpopular opinion. I woul love black roof liner and would really like it in my car if I had the option. I hate beige and white inside cars.

Then pray why is the manual transmission in the Smart variant a 5 speed? I assumed it is the TA65 gearbox since Tata has been using it for ages. Even if my assumption is wrong and it is not the TA65, but a new gearbox. Why? Why knock off a gear ratio for one variant? The only times I heard of transmission downgrade was when Maruti stopped the 5 speed in the 800 and Hyundai temporarily gave 5 speed to the 2nd gen Indian market i20, so that the stock of 6 speed transmission could be used for the export models. Again the question. 5 speed in Smart variant. Why?

Have been saying it since the instrument cluster came in the facelifted Tiago. Well say it again. It is a H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E instrument cluster. And this is coming from a guy who is seeing the Etios centrally mounted weighing scale instrument cluster on a daily basis. Just a namesake digital instrument cluster that neither has usability nor aesthetics worked out. Took a good 10-15 seconds for me to figure out that it was the TPMS beeping at me in a TD Nexon. They could have given it the simple analog dials of the lower variants of the Altroz and Punch. Heck, even the Nexon EV has the cool half analogue/half digital instrument cluster. Yet, Nexon continues to have this awful digital for the sake of being digital digital instrument cluster. Atleast they compensated for it in this facelift by having a super cool proper instrument cluster in the higher variants.

Oh, I was unaware that being a top seller made a particular model criticism free.

Probably this is OT, but just wanted to point out that 'quality' and 'reliability' are not the same (even though they go hand in hand in many cases). German cars often suffer from reliability (especially the DSGs) but in general the quality levels are high. DSGs are proven to be not so reliable because of the complex design (or inherent flaw in the design) and not because of quality issues.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

What a looker the facelifted Nexon is !! The designer at the helm has done a stellar job of re-inventing the already handsome Nexon both inside out. It looks clean, sharp and modern. However, No DPF bit is quite confusing (esp in these day and age of ever tightening emission norms for a diesel engine). A bit of clarity would be very helpful.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

I have a glaring query that nobody has answered it yet.

How will the driver side airbag work? Like the worst that can happen now is that God forbid airbag does not deploy. Now you face will crash into glass on the illuminated Tata logo! Also how will the airbag even deploy without flinging off the logo glass onto you.

The reason I say this is because recently I read about a guy who's XUV700 didn't deploy airbag at 90ish speed with the ASC engineer revealing that it deploys at 120 kmph

Looks are subjective and nothing is criticism free here. And we are having healthy debate. I respect your opinion and I'm glad that you liked half analog and digital meters of Altroz and Punch where we team bhpians have butchered this very same dials when we first saw the leaked pic, mind you, not even the launch pic.
We slaughtered it to max that we went to Ajanta dials to TELCO days of Tata lorries

IMHO, Tata wanted to give a very a low price for the base variant. There could be people who wanted to have Nexon but can't due to price. So they wanted to cannibalize their Punch top end to base Nexon.

As the famous TBHP saying goes, if you don't cannibalize your products, someone else will do.

Having various GB or Engine variants in base model isn't new. Hyundai has done with their Creta E/E+ with i20 Specs and above models having bigger engines.
They have done this to many models in Middle East market (off topic).

But I will agree to your points mentioned. Tata still can do better. Just to note, TPMS is direct in Nexon and it has simple 4 numbers to the top of the instrument panel.

Quality and reliability goes in hand. If Germans have high quality materials used to have low reliability, then I would gladly accept a low quality material running long and last as I recently observed that a 2 rupees rubber flap for a USB slot is still intact in a Manza (off topic but this 2₹ phrase is from Manza review)

Did you forget the seat belt that is the primary restraint system which holds you at all times, whether or not the secondary restraint system -i.e, the airbag, deploys ? Also do check videos of how the pad on the steering wheel moves when the airbag is deploying.

The ASC guy is wrong. Airbag deployment is designed to be triggered at much lower speeds.
Why the airbag didnt deploy there - possibly the impact was not at a point to trigger the sensor up front.

Airbag deployment @120 kph, for what, fly off to heaven with it after the accident?
