Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

I got the delivery of Creative DCA on 23rd & car is running smoothly till now but for one strange issue. In drive auto mode, gear never comes into D1 (All other gear shifts are working in order: D2 -> D3 -> D4 & so on) & it comes to M1 if I downshift using paddle shifter.

As seen in below gif, I am shifting from P to D mode but it directly comes into D2 (skips D1):

Also, below I am stopping car to a complete halt but it remains in D2:

I checked with my SA, he told that this is nothing serious & will get fixed by software upgrade during 1st service which is due after another 1 month.

1. Is anyone else with DCA facing similar issue
2. Is this something I should worry about & visit service center immediately or wait till 1st service as told by SA

It is my 1st car & being a newbie to cars not sure what to do. Looking forward to valuable advise from community

Do check the behavior on another Nexon DCA, if this issue is specific to your car then the transmission may be slipping the clutch to ensure there is no stalling if its actually not moving to the 1st gear (could also be an issue with the instrument panel not indicating the correct gear), this will increase the clutch wear, hence better to get this addressed as soon as possible, on a separate note, I have noticed a general trend of SAs claiming that a software update will sort out anything under the sun these days, please take it with a bucket load of salt and get 2nd, 3rd opinion to ensure there is no further damage done to the vehicle.

I took delivery of my Nexon Creative+ DCA this Sunday and I have noticed the same too. It never goes in D1, straight to D2 when I start the car.

Had my first scare yesterday when I was at about 40 kmph in the middle of a busy road, the vehicle stopped taking accelerator input. I started to decelerate and move towards the left to park my car. After I parked, I noticed "DCA Fault" light to be on. I switched off my car, called my dealership and while talking to them switched the car back on. DCA Fault light was not on anymore and the car
was taking accelerator input. The dealership said that it might have happened if I pressed accelerator and brake together. Unlikely, since I use the same leg for both inputs like everyone does while driving an automatic. i just wonder what would have happened if I was on a highway cruising at 80+ kmph.

Clearly Tata's infamous QC is at a grand show here. Already 3-4 cases of new Nexon's having issues within less than a week of delivery. While I have enjoyed driving my car last 2-3 days and I genuinely feel it is a great product. However, reading about these and after yesterday's experience, I might be having a few sleepless nights.

Don't worry it's perfectly normal.
The car doesn't use 1st gear in eco and city mode at all. It takes off in 2nd gear only.

If you put it in the sports mode, it will take off in D1.

Apparantly the battery had lost its charge and we had to jump start the car. Now everything is working just fine.

I don't understand why the check engine light, oil low pressure lamp, and engine immobilizer all were on if it was just a battery issue?

Why did the one-month-old battery lose its charge? I drive my car everyday, and I had not used music system etc while engine is off. So there is no reason why it should happen.

The service manager thinks it may have been a software related issue, so he checked my car again and told me that he had removed some bugs from software. Now I don't know if he said that just to console me, because why there would be bugs in updated software and if there really were bugs how did he resolve it so quickly? I was not around when they checked the car so I don't know what exactly they did.

Reporting after four days that there have been no issues. Meanwhile, just to be sure I got the battery checked at authorised Amaron service centre and its perfectly healthy.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

I am quite puzzled by the drop in quality and value proposition of the new Tata models and facelifts. When I bought the Tiago XZ in 2016 it had the best quality I have seen in a car of that price and positioning. Not only that but it was fantastic value for money. I drove all the competitive cars at the time and not one was in the same league as the Tiago. I haven't been disappointed since, except for a recurring problem with the fuel supply, that comes up every 6 months or so. It is most likely the fuel pump and I will bite the bullet and change it.

Aside from that one flaw the car has been near perfect. No other faults or issues. The panel gaps were excellent and everything was put together well. The sales experience was good and I had no complaints.

Since then every new car by Tata Motors has been pilloried as having QC issues. So many people cannot be wrong! What really is the objective of the company? Earlier it was to bring about a change in the safety of cars and to a large extent it succeeded. Now they seem to have no clear objective except to increase the sales by any means. I think this poor quality will come to bite them in the butt very soon and we may well see their sales declining. Additionally, their prices too are such that the cars are no longer value for money given the so-so quality.

Every new avatar of their various models seems to focus on gadgets, tarting up the cars inside and outside with little focus on the value proposition. The brand value is determined by the second hand price of cars. I think Tata cars must have one of the lowest.

On top of that their dealerships are going from bad to worse with undertrained sales and service personnel and tons of people with little pride in their work! I have dealt extensively with Hyundai and Honda and they are definitely a cut above Tata Motors.

I wonder when the top management will wake up and bring a new mission and vision to a company that seems to be sliding South in it's market reputation .

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Regardless of the modern design and features of contemporary Tata vehicles, they consistently deliver a frustrating ownership experience due to persistent issues and widespread quality control problems. When coupled with subpar after-sales support in most cases, it forms a problematic combination. I sincerely hope they address these issues in their business operations. Such good machines let down by incompetent support.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Lack of QC control and the incompetent service stations are the reason why every Tata purchase is like a lottery. As long as the car works fine all iz well. The moment you have an issue the service station is unable to diagnose and they keep fiddling with the car.

My Nexon EV has a strange problem. The AC shuts off suddenly. I have sent the car thrice and yet they are unable to diagnose. They just keep the car for 2 days and return it saying sensor fault etc ans story repeats

Personally I would never plank 30 Lakhs on a Tata. Mahindra is much better in QC and post service.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Does the 17.78 cm Harman music system in the Smart + and Smart Plus S Variant support Bluetooth and Mic facility (for attending phone calls etc.)? I am a bit confused because on the Tata website it is mentioned that USB, mic is not supported by the Music system on the smart plus and Smart plus s variant, but the dealer in informing me that the same is available. Thanks in advance

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Hi fellow bhpian, I have booked Nexon facelifi Creative Plus DCA, in middle of September. The allocation has not happened yet but hearing so much about quality control in Nexon, I am wondering should I cancel the booking and consider Elavate CVT mid variant or Kushaq Ambition 1.0 L AT ?
Kindly advice which will be better in Bangalore city.
Thanks

After driving over 3k in Nexon DCA here's what I think-
1)It's very fun to drive around. The suspension had always been a plus for this car.
2) Definitely a looker.
3) DCA is quite smoothe with linear power delivery.
4)A lot of useful features make life easier. I am particularly fan of 360 cameras.

Apart from that there are definitely some fit and finish issues. The real question is whether it's a deal breaker for you. I flirted with the Elevate option for a while before finalizing Nexon because it was cheaper, more feature loaded and had a turbo engine. I made my peace with some quality niggles here and there, which frankly don't bother me anymore. Some reviewers on YouTube have made it look like everything falls apart on the next day of delivery. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The vehicle is very solidly built, so you don't have to worry about anything. But if you expect ultra high quality finish then it may not be to your taste. The best way to judge would be to spend some time with display vehicles, taking test drive etc.

If you are considering elevate or kushaq then you must be ready to dole out more bucks. They may offer better quality but might miss on to some features as well. See which option makes more sense to your needs.

I wonder why a vehicle has not been allotted to you if you booked it in September. I booked on 14th sept (same model as you, DCA creative +) and got my delivery on 8th Oct.

Hope this was helpful. Cheers.
