Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Thanks for the review guys. Detailed stuff as usual!

I feel the facelifted Nexon is more show than GO! I expected Tata to refine on the fit and finish, QC, and introduce some clever bits that their cars earlier had.

Instead, now they have deleted a few things. No illuminated window buttons, only auto down for driver window, single reversing lamp, an ergonomic failure of horn (safety concern IMO), not a single cup holder, even most steering buttons seem of touch part! Also, I hope there is a way to turn off the illuminated logo on the steering.

Some other bits WRT niggles and fit and finish that disappointed me the most.

Eagle Eyed BHPians will notice that the Logo display and the steering buttons are misaligned slightly. We saw this in some other cars as well. The horn pad is the small strip below the display and it’s not very ergonomic. You always end up pressing the display which unfortunately isn’t the horn.

The ORVM adjustment panel came off on our test car

It’s finished in piano black and is a scratch magnet. This will be very hard to maintain. Just look at the number of scratches already on our test car.

We faced a few issues with the electronics like one of the cameras of the 360-degree system wasn’t working at times, the bonnet sensor stopped working randomly and the car kept warning us about the bonnet being open despite us manually shutting it properly. Then the USB-C ports of our car weren’t working and the wireless charging pad had a loose contact.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Thanks for the great review.
I really like the front end looks but still could not appreciate the busy rear, though now it looks better than the earlier version. Also they should have used the physical buttons instead of capacitive touch panel for A/C controls and Hazard light switch. Anyway they have atleast provided physical buttons for temperature and fan speed adjustment.

Note: I want to clarify that my intention is not to defame Tata. I genuinely appreciate the positive changes they have made. However, Tata must address these issues promptly before deliveries commence to ensure a smooth and satisfying ownership experience for customers.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Love the car, and I hope it is successful, but hate to see several quality issues on almost all the review videos.
Buckle up Tata, and improve the quality of basic things. You certainly have a winner in the market.

These are all genuine issues that affect the usability of the product. They deserve to be highlighted. Things like these have no business happening in one of the most prolific cars in the market. And they all HAVE TO be sorted at factory level, not at service centers. These are media cars, not some pre production prototypes. You can’t showcase your new product with bits falling off!!

Criticism is totally fair and deserved.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Despite the comprehensive facelift, Tata needs to sort out the below

- Quality inconsistencies (Seems to be a deep rooted issue that needs big bang reforms at every level of manufacturing and assembly)

- Ergonomic issues (Difficult to get rid of, considering it is based on an old platform)

- Badly needed a new Turbo Petrol, possibly with 4 cylinders, I hate 3 cylinder motors in general and the one on the Nexon seems to be at the bottom of the pyramid, though I am yet to drive this, I have very low expectations, Altroz i-turbo that I had driven is one of the worst on power delivery front and I dont expect this to be very different. Its time all manufacturers gave up on 3 cylinder turbo petrols, most have a gruff note and sound industrial (especially while idling)! Real word fuel efficiency of a 3 cylinder has not proven to be significantly higher than a comparable 4 cylinder counterpart anyway.

Wish Tata had chosen to roll out an all new Nexon on the ALPHA platform rather than a facelift, the age of the platform has restricted it from getting certain niceties like a spacious foot well, well placed ABC pedals, well designed console between front seats with cup holders, padded arm rests on rear doors etc. All in all the facelift looks great and may sell very well considering the rich equipment list and feel good features, however, buyers looking for brisk performance and good fit and finish will be left wanting.

I presume this will be successful pretty soon.
Yes, it would be carried over to other products as they have invested into the DCA development.

While many people were excited about the DCT, I had my doubts from the start. The DCA in the Altroz while being smooth isn't too different in shift 'timings' when compared to an AMT or CVT(going by 0-100 times of the Altroz DCA and its competition). From the comments in the review, it's quite clear that the DCT on this one is similar to one on the Altroz and not like the ones seen in the Hyundai-Kia group. This means that the diesel manual in the red shade, is the one to buy.
Cup holder was never inside the sliding tray. It was cubby hole, at max for small mobiles and coins but not for cups.
There is a small cubby boxed area for knickknacks but never a cup hole. And again, hardly seen people drinking coffee(at max tins) while driving cars in India.

DCA shifts are very smooth, unknown to any other pax in car and timings are very clear if you drive so. It is not mated to be a race car but tuned for economy. AMT was questioned on Nexon but when DCA was provided, we are now asking for a Diesel AMT ?

It never had, they never gave. Why repair when ain't broken. And this is the market when adjustable headrests are luxury and Tata provides them.

Did the earlier model had illuminated window buttons , auto up , cup holder?
This is the whole world where a 7-10" screens dont fully turn off but a small logo lit needs to be turned off? In Tata cars, one cant even turn off the screen itself completely.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Great Review, as always very comprehensive, thanks.

Kudos to Tata for upping their game and providing the customer with the power of choice and loading the car with frills.

The three things which TATA needs to work upon as per me is :
1. QC (just to iron out the “few” chinks in the armour)
2. A four cylinder petrol engine option which provides a balance between refinement, performance and fuel efficiency
3. After sales service (have heard too many horror stories)

I have a Nexon in family (2019 model). It has all power window buttons lit up. It also had request sensor on passenger side. Not sure about the auto UP of window. But my ecosport S (2018) and Kia Sonet HTX (2021) do get the auto up and down. Nexon did have a cup holder with a cover earlier.

Regarding the screens these are way far from us compared to a logo that's dead centre ahead of my face. Also not sure of earlier Nexon, But I can induce calm screens on both my cars which is as good as turned off. It's the first thing of the car that comes nearest to the eyes and will be bothersome to drive at night with it lit up.

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Car is a looker. Feature list is addictive. The only point where customers have to be prepared as always is about the reliability of the software and the finesse of the parts in the car - seeing those pictures or videos where parts are disintegrating must be a GRAVE concern to Tata, atleast NOW!

Don't let a great car take the fall because of your feeble QC process. I can't actually call it feeble but I really believe it is to do something with their organization culture at this point. They're not driving Quality within their org. I strongly feel they're focused on quantity (content and looks) and they're settling down well with it!

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

From review that i have seen so far.....DCA is nowhere close to Hyundai/Kia DCT. I can't think of comparing it with DSG. It is bad engineering decision to bring DCA, they could have got a simple torque converter like Harrier. Mahindra made a correct choice with ASIN 6 speed TC !

Re: 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift Review

Great review with a lot of attention to detail as always. This is that car which shall standout in the crowd. All the other reviews have also been glowing save the odd niggles which should be sorted soon.

Tata has a blockbuster on their hands. Bravo!

Noted.

True. But the cup holders should have still been offered. It is a thing whose utility is realised when we do actually end up needing it. Of course, those who use it regularly will miss it. There are other features as well which are hardly used in India(cruise control for example) but it is being offered by every manufacturer along with the cup holders.

Never questioned the smooth shifts. Only the shift timing which are poor.

I wonder why people get defensive about this. The 0-100 timings of Altroz DCA is poor when compared to its rivals. Now, this doesn't mean that rivals with a 0-100 time of about 13 seconds are 'race cars'. The statement made by you can also be made by someone in defense of a car taking 21 secs to go from 0-100 and also for a car which takes 25 secs to go from 0-100. The point is, most of the rivals with an AMT or CVT are about 20%-25% faster than the Altroz DCT which makes the Altroz DCT 'slow' when it comes to shift timings. This 'lethargicness' and 'hesitancy' of the gearbox was pointed out in Altroz's review and the same has been pointed out in the Nexon's review as well. Please trust me to know the difference between cars which performs 25% better as compared to the Altroz DCA and a 'race car'.

AMT was rightly questioned IMO. Diesel AMT is already present. Would have loved to see a diesel DCT combo but not this DCT.
