Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Toyota denies it and dealers are able to offer! Does it mean that dealers were getting 10 lakh plus margins on a Hilux. Well..... don't think so.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Well, I have to agree that it's an absolute steal deal for anyone who already had the intention to buy the Hilux.

Might I also add, after I had taken delivery of the vehicle and was doing the final formalities, the sales head of the dealership also mentioned that Toyota is not offering any discounts officially, so 3 years from now I might actually be able to sell the vehicle at the price I have bought it for (maybe more), considering that the official prices will only increase in 3 years.

Two things here: I had already done the deal, paid the money, and bought the car, so he had no reason to "sell" it to me any further. So he might have genuinely meant it. However, even discounting what he said, the point made logical sense to me considering how Toyota's vehicles age and the premium they carry in pre-owned market (This goes with the assumption that the market for lifestyle pickup trucks will eventually grow in India and the demand will increase substantially, which only time will tell).

Not that I have any intention of selling this machine ever, with all the plans I have for it. But my point was, especially for those who intend to sell it after using it for 3-4 years, to them it makes even more sense.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Contacted Kolkata dealer and was only offered a INR 1.5 Lakhs discount, so it may be that only certain dealers have stock that they are willing to discount.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

There’s definitely more to this discounts. Can be either excess inventories of kits with Toyota or some firm projections given to vendors for the kits. All these are relatively new production cars and the dealers can get any different colour from factory in 7-10 days. Most dealers have one or two on stocks only so it’s not as if someone is sitting with multiple cars. Regarding different discounts at different places, I think it’s simply the eagerness of dealers to sell more and fair margins vs selling less at higher margins.

I have question for knowns- does this get same engine and gearbox as Fortuner or will it be a bit different? In terms of power and torque and country of origin. I think fortuner is completely made locally whereas this might be from SKD.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Congratulations on your buy and rightly said you don't need to buy any more cars in your life with the garage lineup that you have. Hilux is my dream vehicle and as I say would be my retirement vehicle ans the last car that I buy in my life. Enjoy your Hilux.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

My day just keeps getting better reading team bhp

Just read about the fantastic fight and win by this gentleman against an insurance corporation (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techn...l#post55775040) and now this! Lawyers are truly killing it today here haha.

Like you told, in India the use for a personal pick-up trucks is so niche. Hence, it makes surprise Hilux has become the commercial failure it is now. I was however hoping for it to be massively successful since it was the best of Toyota. Happy to be proven wrong that the average Indian customer looks for value and didn't fell for Toyota's inflated price.

Congratulation Touringlawyer on this tank and wishing you a million happy miles ahead.

the engine is exactly the same in 4X4 Fortuner Diesel, so is the power and torque. Driving dynamics are different though.

A quick curiosity question for TouringLawyer here, will you be registering your truck in Noida and getting bound by 10 year NCR diesel rule. Also another one, where will you be driving it primarily, I mean as a your daily driver to office/workplace, getting groceries, meeting/greeting people, or would you be doing a lot of up and down to country Side, mountains, maybe your farmhouse, etc. My apologies if this sounds too personal to ask, if that's the case then please ignore.

Also will you be able to live with Thar and Hilux together. It is said once you get a habit of driving double cab, nothing else suits, though Thar is no sedan by comparison, but still.

Congratulations on your purchase, wish you many many happy miles.

I couldn’t DM you.
I tried negotiating with Nandi Toyota, Banaswadi. SA said there’s no such huge discount, but can be offered slight discount plus accessories at free of cost.
I didn’t check with other dealers in Bangalore after that.

Maybe if you can share some info if any dealers are offering such discounts would help.

I checked with Harsha Toyota, Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh. SA said cash discount of around 2 lakhs against on road price plus 1 lakh worth accessories (as per customer choice) are offered with 2 days delivery timeline.

The Fortuner is made in India except for the 6 AT gearbox where as Hilux is CKD and assembled in same unit where Camry and Lexus are assembled. Except for the mandatory 6-7 parts, rest everything comes from Thailand.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

My first post on a thread.

The news of these discounts on Hilux, when it first came out, sounded like a hoax to me. But now that we see BHPians picking this fantastic product at these prices, its a bit too lucrative to pass up for a Toyota Fanboy family like ours. Yesterday, we had a serious discussion on whether it made any sense to sell the Crysta & bring Hilux home but after discussing all day, my Dad decided this purchase would end up being too impulsive & unsuitable for us considering current garage priorities. The 3 main points which made us rule out Hilux were (Note : We did not go see or test drive the car since we have seen it numerous times while the Toyotas are getting serviced & drive experience I believe would be similar to Fortuner)-

1. Extra-aaa long vehicle - a bit cumbersome to drive on Noida & Delhi roads.
2. Rear seat is unusable & in turn not suitable for trips as a family of 4 adults.
3. In continuation to point 2, if trips are not possible, other than that, there is no use
scenario at home which could do justice to this tank.

Sorry for the rant but there goes my chance of owning one of the best off-roaders India has ever seen for another couple years.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

I completely miss this point. Autocar and few magazines posted that there are around 8 lakhs worth of discounts and offers going for Toyota Hilux. I was tempted and called the dealers. But the dealer I called does not have any idea about this. So close.

https://www.timesnownews.com/auto/ca...icle-101363569

Currently the on road price is at around 43 lakhs for the top end in Pondicherry.

Unknown here.

Read somewhere in the forum that both the Innova and Fortuner are localised 80%, with the transmission being a critical component still being imported. The GD diesel engine is being made in India, and it would be weird if Toyota still continues to import the 2.8l just for the Hilux especially since the tuning is the same. Rest of the Hilux is definitely CKD. Can feel the difference especially interior quality IMHO. The interior bits of the Fortuner while hardy has some leeway, while the Hilux interior is rock solid, like carved out of a single stone. Though it could also be that the Fortuner display model was an old (abused) one, while the Hilux was a fresh display piece.

Hey, thanks Jimmy. I've been lucky enough to start living an almost retired life at 40. I'm 41 now. So there is no office/court commute anyways, very rarely maybe. However, for all the city/NCR runs, will be using the Thar (ease of driving, love that AT and the engine). I travel to Uttarakhand very frequently (once every 2 months type), where I am building a small permanent abode in a fruit orchard, the village is called Hartola (about 2 hours ahead of Nainital). So the Hilux will be used for all the outstation travel, which for me is mostly the mountains. I intend to get a canopy and do a lot of long-distance travelling with my babies (my dogs). As I had mentioned, driving the Thar open top is an absolute delight, more specifically in the mountains, and for that reason alone, the Thar will stay forever.

Cheers

Congratulations! And thank YOU for sharing such valuable information with the community. Not only could your information help a lot of us getting our mitts on (what is for us) an aspirational vehicle, but you might just have helped Toyota dealers move a fair amount of this largely low volume product.

While we are at that, I hope that all of you will join me in observing a minute's silence for Isuzu India. May their case study save all golden geese that are, and will be.
