Couple of Pre-purchase Questions

I am seriously contemplating to get a Toyota Hilux, as a companion for my ageing Škoda Yeti. Don’t get me wrong. These are two totally different machines, and this thread is exclusively about Hilux.

I am looking for answers to the following questions:

Tonneau (bed tub) covers

There appear to several options including some pretty looking steel canopies. I am not sure what will ultimately suit my need.

Yet, till I make that final choice, I want the tonneau covered and if possible locked, to use it substantially as a massive space in which to carry our stuff in a manner that I can leave it behind overnight without worrying excessively that it will be pinched.

What might be good tub/tonneau cover that could be fitted (without drilling or welding) that is lockable and water resistant?

Blind Spot

I guess there would be a substantial blind-spot on the left, which might be accentuated due height at which one sits. What would be good solution to overcome this. Would the small mirror mounted ahead on the left side of bonnet help? Are there any other solutions to assist with clearing the blind spot.

Service Packages

Does anyone have a recommendation on Smiles Service Packs offered by Toyota?

Hilux gets minimum Rs 6 lakh discount at most outlets
Higher variants can be had with more benefits depending on inventory

Why not consider the official MAX cover accessory. I am quite happy with mine.

Is that a 12L discount?

I checked with my local BLR dealership, and they claim that they are unaware of this discount offer.

Many thanks.

Could you please confirm whether this could be installed without any drilling etc. In which case I could get it installed when I pass through Bangalore next.

Do such large discounts indicate that Toyota might pull the plug on Hilux?

Even though I wouldn’t be too worried about after sales service due common parts that Hilux shares with Fortuner.

Yes that is nearly a 12L discount being offered by the dealer! I don’t how the dealer is managing it but he’s ready give the car for that much price.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

The product positioned as a Lifestyle Vehicle has not found many buyers and there are huge stocks piled up which are lying unsold.

Bargain hard and you are sure to get discounts upwards of 6 to 7 lacs. A dealership in North India I am in touch with has offered discount upto 8 lacs on the first round of negotiations.

Frankly such bargains are offered only when the product is dead and catching dust at dealership inventories. I abandoned my plan to buy the car . Shall wait for a few months more. If the discounts fall more, the after market price of my car would get badly affected. I would not like to be part of such a downward spiral.

Has any other Toyota car seen such a dismal performance ever? I thought Yaris was a disaster. But this one has topped the charts !

I didn't witness the install but it does seem like a bolt on kit.

Being a Toyata I wouldn't worry about part availability even if discontinued.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Funny to think the Hilux is the world's best selling pick up truck... but here in India, they're struggling.

Ravindu Toyota is offering a 5-6 Lakhs discount on High MT. If we bargain further they may add in another 1 Lakh.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

The recreational lifestyle pick up is a very minuscule market in India as we can see from the numbers. I don't understand why they have to reach for the stars at the time of launch and then offer crazy discounts. Many people who were interested, lost interest after the price announcement.

Toyota denies reports of heavy discounts on Hilux

Earlier this week, there were reports of heavy discounts on the Toyota Hilux. Dealers were said to be offering a discount of Rs 6 lakh on lower variants and up to Rs 8 lakh on the higher trims of the pick-up truck. Toyota has now released an official statement denying these reports.

Toyota Hilux Review-2023toyotahilux01.jpg

Official statement:

Quote:
“With regards to certain media reports on the Toyota Hilux being offered at a highly discounted price, this is to officially communicate that the reports are incorrect. Toyota Kirloskar Motor continues to strictly follow the price list officially announced by the company which ranges from Rs. 30,40,000 - Rs. 37,90,000/- (ex-showroom).

All thanks to its Versatility, Capability & Comfort in any terrain, the much-celebrated Hilux continues to enthral the market ever since its launch. We thank our customers for their overwhelming response and look forward to their continued love and appreciation for brand Toyota.”
The Toyota Hilux shares its underpinnings with the Fortuner. In India, the pick-up truck is offered with a 2.8-litre diesel engine producing 201 BHP (204 BHP - 6MT) and 500 Nm (420 Nm - 6MT). The engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. It comes with a four-wheel-drive system with an electronic differential lock, a limited-slip differential and Active Traction Control.

Popular world over, but not world's best selling. That belongs to the F-150. Make what you will of that info regarding the US market.

The Hilux would have been a raging success if they launched the whole lineup here:

Pity they choose to go for the profit maximum route by launching it in lifestyle with only 4x4 and the 2.8l. On the bright side they are offering manual and also a lower variant too.
