I have a few question though:
1.) Why does the Registration Card show the car as a Fortuner 3.0L 2WD MT and not an AT?

2.) Is there a separate button that Toyota has fixed for the rear parking sensors?

3.) Do you plan to upgrade the Headunit system?
Thank you @CEF_Beasts! Totally agree with you on vigsom sir

Here is my response to your questions.

1. Good catch. That looks like a mistake from RTO back in 2012 and it continues to be there in my new RC card as well.

2. Yes, 4 buttons at the rear bumper plus warning buzzer with display which varies beep based on the gap between object and bumper. Found it to be very helpful while parking. Stock beep is still there. Got this fitted directly from Toyota.

3. No, Headunit is in perfect condition. Audio quality is fine for my liking.

Thank you @Excommunicado, Agree with you, Toyotas can go on and on.

I wouldn't say it's comfortable as the Crysta is but your trip to Munnar shows that it is comfortable for long trips as well.
Thank you @superchamp, Yes, Fortuner is a highway cruiser and I found it very comfortable over long drives. Crysta is super comfortable. No second thoughts there

Thank you @zaid qazi, 3.0L D-4D is a gem of a engine and capable of covering few lakhs KM with ease.

What an awesome review and reiterates the quality of a Toyota vehicle. Please could you advise if this Imperial Leather is the one behind IIM-B at Vijaya Bank Layout? I would take my 12 year old 3rd Gen City for a similar seat refurbishment. Thanks!

Re: Ownership Review | 2012 Toyota Fortuner AT | Story of another Ageless Rockstar

Heart warming update - thank you for penning it and the pictures. My own 2012 AT Fortuner is just about to have 10th birthday and I don't find any reason to part ways. Worrying about the govt mandated scrapping that'll eventually come up in the years to come - otherwise, this truck would surely outlast me. What a pleasure to drive the steed, bumpy ride notwithstanding!

Keep sharing, nowadays we don't see enough of the Fortuner here 😀

Still with Toyota so far. May explore externally if good alternatives are recommended by esteemed forum members.

Re: Ownership Review | 2012 Toyota Fortuner AT | Story of another Ageless Rockstar

Great review there. I too have the 2012 version. Exact same config but is Sliky gold color. Haven't even touched 100000 km yet. Because i use the smaller vehicle (polo) for city.

The 2012 with AT is a beast of a car. But i have to ask whether the time runs out for you as the laws have a diesel car to be scrapped by 10 or 15 years depending on the city? Isn't a 2012 car a mistake to buy in this regard? Please correct me if i am wrong.

Thank you @ethan3686, If your car is registered anywhere other than Delhi-NCR, then both diesel and petrol vehicles will have a lifecycle of 15 years. And when your car reaches the end of the lifecycle, you can re-register your vehicle with the same RTO for a period of five years. Considering my Fortuner has completed 10 years now, I don't see any problem for next 10 years until and unless there is some change in law.

Cheers,
RAHS

Re: Ownership Review | 2012 Toyota Fortuner AT | Story of another Ageless Rockstar

Firstly congratulations @rahs.

My friend also picked up a 2012 Fortuner 4x2 AT from Utrust Bangalore.

This is the first automatic car for both me and him, we noticed when we release the accelerator pedal the engine rpm goes to idle stage. No hints of engine braking, not even a little. The same happens when tried on L, D2 & D3.

Not sure if this is a common behaviour but feeling little wired because we use engine braking a lot during downhills on our MT cars.

Re: Ownership Review | 2012 Toyota Fortuner AT | Story of another Ageless Rockstar

Great thread and congrats on the purchase @rahs.

I have my heart set on a 2012 Fortuner AT, which has run about 80k kms.

I have 3 questions :

1. This car in question doesn't have the little 360 mirror on the bonnet – is this normal?

2. I believe 2012 AT is a 4 speed automatic, can you pls tell me the mileage you're able to extract ? I plan to use my car mainly for the highways.

3. What is a reasonable price for a 2012 AT, 80km run. I'm being quoted around 17.5 L.

I have a scropion n booking and i plan to cancel it to go for a fortuner at – am i being stupid here?

Thank you! Sorry for the delayed response. I did not update this thread since last couple of months. Below is my feedback to your questions.

1. That mirror is called as "fender mirror" which came as additional accessory from Toyota. I never found it helpful. It's mostly for aesthetical purpose, if you like it that way

2. On mileage: I get about 9.5 in city and 11 on highway. I am a sedate driver and maintain a speed of 100 - 120 on highways.

3. 2012 AT done just about 80K? That looks suspicious to me. I expect minimum 1.5 Lakh KM on 2012 Fortuners. Did you get the service history checked? Asking price is also quite high. It should be in the range of 13L - 15L. Not more than that.

Good luck with the hunt (If you are still looking for one!)

NOTE: Scorpio N is a great car. But it really depends on your usage. But on any given day, I would still pick a pre-owned Fortuner over Scorpio N or XUV 700.

Cheers,
RAHS

Re: Ownership Review | 2012 Toyota Fortuner AT | Story of another Ageless Rockstar

Folks,

I could not update this thread on a regular basis. Sorry about that. Today (December 9th) marks the first anniversary of my car. Can't believe that it's 1 year already. Time flies!

Car is doing great. No complaints. It's been an absolute pleasure driving this beast. Done about 11,000 KM since last 1 year. 80% highway and 20% city. I know running is low compared to Fortuner standards Hopefully 2023 should be better.

Destinations visited:

1. Mantralayam
2. Kukke and Dharmasthala
3. Thekkady
4. Uttara Kannada (My hometown)
5. Munnar
6. ISHA, Coimbatore
7. Tirupati
8. Murdeshwar-Udupi-Mangalore
9. Ooty/Coonoor
10. Wayanad

Many more trips are planned for 2023. Will try to keep this thread updated as much as I can.

Here is the latest pic from our recent trip to Wayanad last week, just for viewing pleasure

Thanks for reading and happy to answer if there are any questions

Cheers,
RAHS

Thank you for the response.

Yes still looking for one.

The car in question was being sold on Spinny Bangalore.

I got the service history checked and looks like the km reading was genuine, but all the service was done in Uttam motors Delhi, i'm guessing it was a Delhi registred car which was being resold in Bangalore, if found all this a bit shady hence decided to pass. I agree that the quoted price was on the higher end.

The cost of pre owned Fortuners in Bangalore in unbelievably high, i just need to have patience and wait for the right one.

Wish you many more happy miles in your white beast!

Thanks mate! I strongly advice you look at Toyota U-Trust. There are plenty of options with them. They are genuine and pricing is very competitive. You can skip Spinny and Cars24. For Fortuner, their quote is very high, unrealistic and doesn't make sense.

Visit Toyota U-Trust and give them your requirement. I am sure you can close the deal in 2-4 weeks. I got my car in just 2 weeks after my first visit to U-Trust (Bommanahalli). December and January you might find some good deals. Stay cool and keep hunting. Good luck

Cheers,
RAHS

Re: Ownership Review | 2012 Toyota Fortuner AT | Story of another Ageless Rockstar

Hey guys,

2nd anniversary is around the corner and time to update this thread! I can't believe that it's almost 2 years already. Time flies

Car is doing fine. I have done about 11,000 KM since last 11 months. Current ODO reading stands at 2,64,000 KM.

For the Service, I have stopped going to Toyota ASC. I found them to be very expensive and my experience with Nandi Toyota hasn't been great. They are pushing for too many things just to inflate the bill and meet their target. Service quality is also very average. For the service and other maintenance I have been visiting Popular Automatch (Just next to Nandi Toyota, Kudlu Gate). Experience has been good so far. Service cost is very much on a lower side compared to Toyota ASC. Last service costed me about Rs.10,000/-. Same in Toyota ASC would have costed twice or thrice

Destinations visited in 2023:

1. Coorg
2. Mantralaya
3. Yercaud
4. Mysore
5. Chikmagalore
6. Kodaikanal
7. Kukke
8. Pondicherry
9. Wayanad
10. Kolli Hills

Many more to come in 2024! Here is the latest pic from our recent trip to Kolli Hills, Tamil Naadu.

Important update: Planning for Audio upgrade and Headlight upgrade. This has been pending for a while. Better late than never! I will keep this thread updated with the outcome

Thanks for reading and happy to answer if there are any questions.

Cheers,
RAHS
